SQL Server is a relational database management system (RDBMS) designed by Microsoft. Moreover, we will also discuss what is the major cause of this error message and how can we fix this error message

What is Remote Server?

The remote server is a server that is committed to handling the users that are not on a LAN but require remote access to it. The remote access server permits users to gain access to files and print services on the LAN from a remote location.

Such as a user who dials into a network from home using an analog modem or an ISDN connection will dial into a remote access server. Once the user is validated he can access shared drives and printers as if he were physically linked to the office LAN.

SQL Server Management Studio

SQL Server Management Studio is a client tool that will be installed if we choose a workstation component in installation steps. This permits you to link to and manage your SQL Server from a graphical interface instead of having to use the command line.

In order to connect to a remote instance of SQL Server, you will need this or similar software. It is used by Administrators, Developers, Testers, etc.

SQL Server Management Studio is an application first launched with SQL Server 2005 that is used for arranging, controlling and regulating all constituents within Microsoft SQL Server.  SSMS consists of both script editors and graphical tools which work with objects and properties of the server.

What is the reason for Error 15274: Access Denied as Security Context is Not Trusted?

Having a SQL Agent Job, which performs a stored procedure to link to a remote SQL server via linked server and extract/control the data. The stored procedure runs effectively in SQL Server Management Studio(SSMS) but gets failed, if run through an agent Job.

NOTE: A Windows account is used here to link to a remote server and the account is having DBO permission in both source and remote server databases. Both the servers are in a similar domain.

How to fix Error 15274: Access Denied as Security Context is Not Trusted?

The solution to this error is quite uncomplicated. This remote server error informs that the account is not getting authenticated at other servers. So you need to make your task run using the following consultation.

  1. You have to note down the account under which SQL server agent service is running.
  2. You have to create this account as the admin on both the boxes between which the linked server is established.
  3. Now you need to make this account as the owner of the job.
  4. Please don’t add this account in the “run as” for any job step.
  5. Now you have to add this account for linked server access and click on impersonate.

You are good to go now!
